Syllabus

Objectives:

We will cover the following topics and subjects:

  • The vocabulary and language of art
  • The elements of art and principles of design
  • Art criticism and theories of art
  • Aesthetics
  • Use of media, methods and techniques to create art
  • Historical periods of art

Requirements:

  • Art Notebook -- You will keep a notebook containing all handouts and notes taken on reading assignments, lectures, films and demonstrations.
  • Participation/ Life Skills -- Be present for class, take part in discussions, make efficient use of time during class work sessions.
  • Competence -- You should demonstrate competence by completing all sketches, work sheets and major assignments.
  • Responsibility -- Be responsible for tools, supplies and the studio work area.

Grading:

35% -- Projects and major assignments

10% -- Tests and quizzes

25% -- Class work such as worksheets and notes and Notebook checks (notebooks must be in order).

15% -- Final Exam

15% -- Life Skills
Incomplete assignments will be averaged as a "0".
