Creating a Photo Collage/ Photo Montage

Create a collage of your favorite memories. In this project, collect a selection of photographs that you center around a personal theme. Make black and white copies of these photos. You can make multiple copies of the same photo and shrink or enlarge some photos. Cut them out and arrange them according to the following specifications:

bulletChoose one photograph to be the focal point and use the various ways of creating emphasis to bring the viewer's eye to your chosen area.

bulletArrange your photographs in a visually interesting way, using the principle of Emphasis (above) as well as other principles.

bulletBe sure to use good craftsmanship in cutting and gluing. Neatness counts!

bulletCreate the name of your theme as well as the name of the class, Photo Design I, using letters from magazines, word processors, or just plain neat lettering. Make sure they are arranged in a way that is interesting and that enhances your collage rather than distracting from it.

bulletUse other materials in your collage -- construction paper, markers, pens -- but only add, at most, one color. You may also add black and white.

bulletLook at the rubric for this project and make sure you are covering all bases.
